Michael (Gary) Herr is a businessman from George, with 2 boys, Adian and Jethro.
Michael started racing oval track about 1½ years ago when he approached Syrah racing for a test run in the very Golf he still races. Michael comes from a motorcycle racing background, and took to the oval circuit like a duck to water. He is probably one of the most improved drivers and is continuesly seen in podium positions in both the 2.1 and Hotrod classes where he takes part in the pretty Que-Post 2 liter Golf, currently maintained by Steven Pick.
Indeed, his proudest achievment to date is obtaining a 3rd place overall in the Hotrod class in his first season.
Asked about nerves, he smiles and says “OK racing drivers are always anxious” and asked about the wining motive, he comes up with an equally evasive : "I race to enjoy while winning…”
He races under his own business’ “sponsorships”, namely Que Post and Springtech.
His other hobby is flying radio controlled planes and helicopters.
Michael is known as a gentleman and has an easy going way that is infectious!
